Script-Fu -> Glass Effect Text
This is an adjustable script,
which creates text that looks like it is made out of glass.
Lots of little tweaks you can adjust. By default I took out the use of a background texture, just check "Include Background" (and choose a pattern) if you want a texture behind the text.
